Ruffle Flower DEErections

Here's a step-by-step tutorial on my large and small ruffle flowers.

Large Ruffle Flower

Materials Needed: thin paper (book pages, tissue paper, or crepe paper work well), card stock, Tasteful Trim die, circle punches (1", 3/4" and 1/2" in size), adhesive, scissors, button

1. Die cut three strips of scallop border and trim down to 5 1/2 scallops, 6 1/2 scallops and 7 1/2 scallops. Punch 1/2", 3/4", and 1" circle bases. Match the sizes as shown below.

2. Prepare your die cut scallop border by cinching the straight edge. You can choose to skip this step if you prefer, especially with very thin paper (like tissue or crepe paper). I find this step helpful for working with book pages as it makes it easier to work with.

3. Add adhesive around the outer edge of your first circle.

4. Starting with the end that has half a scallop, adhere your border to the edge of your circle base. Work your way around the circle, cinching as you go.

5. When you come to the end, add a little adhesive to the circle base and part of your border that had the half scallop and overlap the last scallop. Your first layer will look like this.

6. Repeat steps 2-5 for the other layers. When you are done, you will have three layers as shown below.

7. Use glue dots to attach your layers to each other, placing the largest layer on the bottom.

8. Embellish the center of your flower with a button.

Small Ruffle Flower

Materials Needed: thin paper (book pages, tissue paper, or crepe paper work well), card stock, Tasteful Trim die, 1/2" circle punch, adhesive, scissors, button

1. Die cut three strips of scallop border and trim two strips down to 5 1/2 scallops, the other one to 4 1/2" long. Punch three 1/2" circle bases. You can also choose to use only two layers for a less full flower.

2. Follow steps 2-5 above to create your 5 1/2 scallop layers.

3. For the third layer, use your 4 1/2 scallop border and adhere it in the same fashion close to the center of your circle base (rather than the outer edge). It should look like the sample shown below.

4. Two layers should have 5 petals, your third should have 4 petals as shown below.

5. Adhere your layers together with glue dots, carefully alternating your petals for the bottom two layers.

6. Embellish your flower with a button.
